How to Choose an App Development Company in Dubai: A 10-Point Checklist

Before you sign with an app developer in Dubai, run through these ten checks: real apps you can try, an in-house team, code in your name, a documented contract and clear post-launch support.

The right app developer is the one who can back every promise with something you can check: an app you can install, a contract you can read, accounts in your name and a real person who supports you after launch. Here is a practical ten-point checklist for comparing app companies in Dubai before you spend a single dirham.

The checklist: 10 things to verify before you sign

1. A real portfolio you can install and try

Polished screenshots in a pitch deck prove very little. Ask for the names of apps that are live on the App Store and Google Play, install them on your phone and use them. Are they fast? Do ordering and payment work smoothly? Does the Arabic look right? Ask specifically for projects close to your idea, whether that is a store, a delivery platform or a booking app.

2. A local in-house team, or outsourcing?

Some agencies sell the project and then hand it to freelancers or offshore teams. That brings time-zone gaps, slow communication and, sometimes, the developer who wrote your code disappearing after handover. Ask directly: who will design it, who will build it, and are they employees of the company? An in-house team means one clear point of accountability.

3. Code and account ownership in your name

This is one of the most important checks and one of the most overlooked. Make sure the contract states that you receive the source code, files and designs, and that the Apple and Google developer accounts, the server account and the payment gateway accounts are all in your name, not the agency's. Without that, you can end up locked in to a single supplier you cannot leave.

4. A documented contract fixing features, timeline and cost

Ask for a written technical and financial proposal that becomes a contract. It should list the features of every app and the admin panel, the timeline by phase, the total cost and the payment schedule. Anything not written down will later become a dispute or an "extra".

5. Design before code

A professional team shows you the screen designs and gets your sign-off before development starts. Changing a design takes hours; changing a built screen takes days. If someone tells you they will "go straight into coding", expect changes to be expensive later.

6. Testing on real devices

Ask how the app will be tested: on which devices, whether the full payment, ordering and notification flows are tested end to end, and whether you will get a test build to review before launch. Testing is not a phase to squeeze to save time.

7. Store publishing handled for you

Apple reviews every app before it goes live and can reject it over content, privacy or design issues. An experienced team prepares the store listings, descriptions and screenshots and deals with review feedback until the app is published, instead of leaving you to handle it alone.

8. UAE payment and delivery integration experience

Commerce and service apps in the UAE usually need integration with payment gateways such as Telr, Network International or Stripe, buy-now-pay-later services such as tabby and Tamara, and courier or delivery companies. Ask for past projects with these integrations, and whether they help with prerequisites such as an e-commerce activity on your trade licence, which you should confirm with the relevant authority in your emirate.

9. Arabic and English quality

Your UAE audience uses both languages. A good app renders Arabic right to left correctly on every screen, with clear fonts and copy that is written with care rather than machine-translated. Open the agency's previous apps in Arabic and look for flipped icons and truncated text.

10. Post-launch support and a clear plan for what comes next

Ask what happens after launch. Who do you contact if something breaks? What does technical support cover? How will the next features be developed? A serious company gives you a named account manager, training on the admin panel and a plan for keeping the app current as iOS and Android change.

Ask about marketing after launch too: being on the store does not mean customers will find you. A team that understands this will advise you on connecting the app to your ad campaigns and tracking installs and orders, so you know where customers come from and where to put your budget.

Red flags that should make you pause

  • A price with no detail: one total figure with no feature list or timeline.
  • A price far below the market with no clear explanation of what is and is not included.
  • Refusing to hand over the code or insisting on opening accounts in the agency's name.
  • No published app you can actually try, only mock-ups and screenshots.
  • Full payment up front instead of payments tied to clear milestones.
  • Vague answers about who the team is and where they work.
  • Promises of guaranteed results in downloads or sales; nobody can guarantee those.

Questions to ask in the first meeting

  1. Can I install two or three of your apps right now and try them?
  2. Who will work on my project, and are they part of your in-house team?
  3. Will the store accounts, the server and the code be in my name?
  4. Which features would you launch in the first version, and what can wait?
  5. How do the phases run (design, development, testing, publishing), and how long does each take?
  6. What does the price include in hosting, publishing and training, and which costs will I pay to third parties?
  7. Who will be my contact after launch, and what does technical support cover?
  8. How are changes I request mid-project priced?

Pay attention to how they answer as much as to what they say. A confident team answers plainly and asks you about your customers and how your business works, not just about your budget.

How to compare several quotes

Do not compare the totals alone. Put the quotes side by side and compare how many apps and admin panels are included, the feature list for each, the delivery timeline, and what the price covers in hosting, publishing, training and support. The cheapest quote sometimes has fewer features or leaves you with later costs it never mentioned. For a reference point on what common app types cost, see our current offers; they are offer prices that may change, and the final quote always depends on your scope.

How we apply this checklist at Comedia

We have been building in Dubai since 2012 with an in-house Arab team, and have delivered +200 apps and +500 websites. Every project starts with a discovery meeting, followed by a technical and financial proposal that becomes a documented contract fixing features, timeline and cost. We then set up the server, present initial designs for your approval, develop, test on real devices, publish to the stores, train your team with a recorded video and hand over the code, files, designs and store accounts in your name.

We also guide you from the trade licence through to payment gateway and delivery integrations. After launch, a dedicated account manager stays with you, with technical support and monthly development ideas. Browse our portfolio and pick the apps closest to your idea to try for yourself.

FAQ

Questions business owners ask

Start by trying apps from their portfolio that are actually live, then make sure the contract hands the code and accounts over in your name. Those two checks reveal a lot about how serious a company is.

An in-house team means the people designing and building your app are employed by the same company, so follow-up is easier and accountability is clear. Outsourcing can cause delays and make support harder after handover.

Yes, the Apple and Google developer accounts should ideally be opened in your name or your company's name. That protects your ownership of the app and lets you move to another provider in future.

A detailed feature list, a timeline by phase, the total cost and payment schedule, clauses on handing over code and accounts, and the terms of technical support after launch.

Yes, the first consultation is free. We discuss your idea and the right first version for it, then send you a documented technical and financial proposal.
