When someone in Dubai searches for "salon near me", "car service in Al Qusais" or "restaurant open now", they see a map with three businesses before any website. That space is Google's local results, and getting into it needs no ad budget; it needs a well-built profile and trust you earn over time. This guide focuses on the practical steps for a business in the UAE.
How Google ranks local results
Google's own guidance says local ranking is based on three main factors:
- Relevance: how well your profile matches what the person is looking for, which is why category, services and description matter.
- Distance: how far your business is from the searcher, or from the area they typed.
- Prominence: how well known your business is, from the number and quality of reviews, to mentions on websites and directories, to your website's strength in regular search.
You cannot control distance, but relevance and prominence depend on your own work.
Set up your Google Business Profile properly
The name as it is in real life
Use your business name exactly as it appears on your licence and signage. Adding words like "best", "Dubai" or a service keyword to the name goes against Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended. If your business has Arabic and English names, use the one customers know and that appears on your sign.
The primary category is the most important setting
Choose the most specific category for what you do, not the broadest. "Dental clinic" is better than "medical clinic", and "mobile phone repair shop" is better than "electronics store". Then add secondary categories only for services you genuinely offer.
Address and pin
Addresses in the UAE often rely on the building name and area more than the street name and number, so place the pin precisely on the right entrance and add the building name, floor and office or shop number. In Dubai, the building's Makani number is useful when writing your address on your website. If you serve customers at their location rather than receiving them, such as cleaning or home maintenance, hide the address and set service areas instead.
Verification
Google asks you to verify that you own the business before the profile shows fully. The method depends on the business and may include recording a video that shows the premises, the signage and your tools of the trade. Prepare for it in advance so your visibility is not delayed.
Details that complete the profile
- Opening hours, with special hours for Ramadan and Eid.
- A phone number that is actually answered, and a website link to the most relevant page, not always the home page.
- A list of services or products with short descriptions.
- A business description that says what you offer, to whom and in which areas.
If you have more than one branch
Every branch that receives customers needs its own profile with its address, phone, hours and photos, under one consistent brand name. Link each profile to that branch's page on your website rather than the home page, so customers find the right address and number straight away, and Google understands that each branch has its own area and customers.
Photos and posts
Real photos of the outside and inside of your premises, your team and your finished work help searchers recognise the place before they arrive. A shot of the entrance with your sign is especially useful in buildings that are hard to find. Avoid generic images from the internet, which do not convince anyone. You can also publish updates and offers from the profile, a chance to show that the business is active and looked after.
Genuine reviews: how to collect them and how to reply
Reviews are among the strongest trust signals for both customers and Google, but the rules are clear: Google's policies prohibit fake reviews, prohibit offering anything in exchange for a review, and prohibit asking only happy customers while avoiding others. Break these rules and reviews can be removed or the profile affected.
How to ask the right way
- Ask every customer for a review after the service, with a short message containing your direct review link.
- Make asking part of the team's routine, not a short campaign that collects dozens of reviews in a week and then stops.
- Never write reviews on customers' behalf, and do not ask staff or relatives for them.
How to reply
Reply to every review, in the reviewer's language. Thank positive reviewers specifically rather than with a copied phrase. For a negative review, acknowledge the problem, explain what you will do and invite the customer to contact you directly. A polite reply to a negative review is read by many later customers, and says more about you than the review itself.
Connect the profile to your website
A Maps profile works on its own, but it is much stronger with a website behind it:
- Identical details: the same name, address and phone on your website, profile, directories and social accounts, in Arabic and English.
- One page per service: explaining the service and answering its questions, so Google understands what you offer in detail.
- Area pages with care: create a page for an area or emirate only when you have a real branch, team or service there, with distinct, useful content.
- Structured data: LocalBusiness markup on your website tells search engines your business name, address and hours.
- A map on your contact page: with the address written clearly and directions.

Other maps and AI assistants
Google is not the only place that matters. iPhone users often open Apple Maps, where you can manage your presence through Apple Business Connect, and there is also Bing Places. When AI assistants are asked about a business in a certain area, they rely on information published about it across several sources, so consistent details everywhere help here too, as we explain in our guide to AI search visibility.
How to measure results
Google Business Profile shows performance data, including how often you appeared, direction requests, calls, website clicks and the searches people used to find you. Review it monthly and compare with the previous month, not with a single day. To see what happens after the click, add UTM tracking tags to the website link in your profile, so Maps visitors appear separately in Google Analytics. Most importantly, ask new customers how they found you and record the answer, because many of them call or walk in without any trackable click.
Common mistakes
- Stuffing the business name with search keywords.
- More than one profile for the same business at the same location.
- Outdated opening hours, so customers arrive to a closed shop.
- Reviews left without replies for months.
- A phone number on the profile that differs from the one on the website.
- Using a virtual address or an office where nobody works.
