Business owners in the UAE hear different advice every day: "TikTok is the future", "Snapchat is the Gulf", "Instagram is non-negotiable". Each is true for some businesses and wrong for others. The real question is not which platform is strongest, but where your customer is, what they do there, and what you want them to do after seeing your ad.
Each platform in brief
Meta: Instagram and Facebook
The most complete ad platform in targeting options and campaign types. It suits online stores, clinics and salons, restaurants, real estate and home services. One of its most useful features in the UAE is click-to-WhatsApp ads, because many customers prefer to ask questions in a chat before buying. Retargeting people who visited your website or engaged with your account is also very strong here.
TikTok
A discovery platform before it is a following platform: content reaches people who do not follow you at all if it is interesting enough. It suits products that can be shown visually in seconds, such as fragrances, fashion, beauty, food and home products, and apps that want installs. Ads that look like the platform's natural content tend to outperform polished ones.
Snapchat
Known for its strong presence in the Gulf, especially among younger audiences. It suits quick offers, restaurants, delivery, entertainment and consumer apps; ads are short, vertical and watched between stories. If a significant share of your customers is in Saudi Arabia, Snapchat deserves a serious test.
If you sell to businesses
If your customer is a company manager or a procurement team, LinkedIn ads or Google Search ads may fit better than these three platforms. See our article on Google Ads for startups in Dubai.
Choose the platform by goal, not by trend
| Your goal | Suggested starting point |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp conversations and enquiries | Meta with click-to-WhatsApp ads |
| Online store sales | Meta with a product catalogue, then TikTok for wider reach |
| Fast awareness for a new brand | TikTok or Snapchat with short video |
| App installs | TikTok, Snapchat and Meta with install tracking |
| Visits to a shop or restaurant in one area | Tight location targeting on Meta and Snapchat |
The practical rule: start with one or two platforms and a budget that allows them to learn, rather than spreading a small amount over four platforms where none collects enough data.
Before the first ad: pixels and conversion tracking
Every platform learns from the data you send it. Without correct tracking, the platform will show your ad to people who click, not to people who buy. Prepare these before launch:
- A pixel per platform: Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel and Snap Pixel on your website, with clear events such as add to cart, purchase and form submission.
- Server-side tracking: server conversion APIs such as Meta Conversions API, TikTok Events API and Snap Conversions API complement the pixel when browsers or privacy settings block some events.
- No double counting: when an event arrives from both the pixel and the server, it must carry one shared ID so it is not counted twice.
- Accounts in your name: the business manager, ad accounts and pixels belong to you, and we work on them with permissions you grant.
Creative that works in the UAE market
Vertical, and tailored per platform
Vertical video is the standard on all three platforms. But moving the same video from Instagram to TikTok and Snapchat unchanged usually weakens it: the pace differs, on-screen text differs, and the way a video opens differs.
The first seconds
Show the product, or the problem it solves, from the very first shot. Viewers decide within moments whether to keep watching or scroll.
Language and dialect
The UAE audience is diverse: Emiratis, Arab residents and English-speaking audiences. Test a version in a natural Gulf dialect and an English version if your audience includes non-Arabs, and do not just translate the script.
Influencers and creators
A creator trying your product looks natural on TikTok and Snapchat, and with their permission the video can run as an ad. If you work with influencers in the UAE, make sure they comply with the country's current media licensing requirements.
Platforms work together: the customer journey and retargeting
Customers rarely buy from the first ad they see. Many successful campaigns split the work between platforms: a short video on TikTok or Snapchat introduces the product, then retargeting ads on Meta reach people who watched the video or visited the website, showing them more detail, a specific offer or feedback from real customers. That is why audiences should be built from the start: website visitors, people who added to cart without buying, people who watched most of a video, and your existing customer list, either excluded from acquisition ads or targeted with loyalty offers, always respecting privacy settings and customer consent.
What happens after the click
The best ad is wasted if the customer lands on a poor experience. If the ad leads to WhatsApp, reply quickly during working hours and prepare saved replies for common questions such as price, delivery and location. If it leads to a product page, the page should load fast on mobile, show price, payment and delivery clearly, and keep the buy button visible without searching. Check the payment step itself too, since options such as Apple Pay and instalments shorten checkout, as we explain in our guide to UAE payment gateways.
Budget, and how to read results
There is no fixed figure that works for every business; cost depends on competition, audience and season. In the UAE, for example, competition for ad space shifts noticeably during Ramadan, Eid and sale seasons. A practical approach:
- Define the conversion that matters: an order, a chat, a booking, an install.
- Test several ads at the same time, because creative is the biggest driver of performance.
- Give the campaign time to collect data before judging it.
- Increase budget on ads that bring customers at an acceptable cost, and stop the rest.
Keep the comparison between platforms fair: each platform attributes conversions to itself with its own method and time window, so more than one may claim the same order. Compare platform figures with what was actually recorded in your store or CRM, and with customers' answers to "how did you hear about us?".
Beware of vanity metrics: views, likes and followers are useful signals, but they are not sales. Always ask how many customers came from this campaign, and at what cost.
Common mistakes
- Launching before the pixel is installed and its events tested.
- Targeting the whole UAE for a business that serves one area.
- Running one ad for weeks until the audience tires of it.
- A "contact us" button that leads to a number nobody answers quickly.
- Relying on the in-app boost button instead of the full ads manager.
