"When will the app be ready?" is one of the first questions business owners ask, and rightly so: the launch date drives the marketing plan, the budget and sometimes the selling season. This article answers the most common questions about app timelines, drawing on our experience at Comedia since 2012.
How many weeks does a mobile app usually take?
Most commercial apps we build take between 6 and 12 weeks from contract to publishing on the App Store and Google Play. A store or booking app for one business with an admin panel usually sits at the start of that range; platforms that bring several parties together, such as a customer app, a driver app and a merchant app, take longer.
This is a general range, not a promise in advance. The exact timeline for your project is set after the discovery meeting and written into the contract.
What are the stages, and how long does each take?
| Stage | What happens | What we need from you |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery and planning | Users, features, screens and the phase plan are defined | Explaining the idea and answering questions |
| Design | App and admin panel screens are designed on your brand | Reviewing and approving the designs |
| Development | The app and admin panel are built and connected to payments and delivery | Preparing content and the required accounts |
| Testing and publishing | Testing on real devices, then submission to the stores | Trying the app and giving feedback |
Stages often overlap: admin panel development can start while the last app screens are being reviewed, which keeps the total shorter than the stages added up.
What makes one app take longer than another?
- Number of apps and user types: every extra app has its own screens and testing.
- Third-party integrations: payment gateways such as Telr, Network International, Stripe, tabby and Tamara, delivery partners and accounting systems.
- Real-time features: live driver tracking and instant chat need more work and testing.
- Languages: Arabic and English with right-to-left layout need care on every screen.
What delays projects most often?
In our experience, delays rarely come from the coding itself. The usual causes are:
- Changing features mid-build: every addition after the scope is approved means redesign, rework and retesting.
- Late content: product photos, prices, texts and the logo in usable formats.
- Late accounts and approvals: the Apple developer account, the Google Play account and payment gateway activation, each with its own procedures.
- Slow reviews: designs or test builds waiting days for feedback.
Can the app launch sooner?
Yes, by focusing on a first version (MVP) with only what the business cannot run without, then adding the rest in phases after launch. Starting from a proven solution and customising it with your name and brand also helps when your idea is close to a store, a directory or a booking platform. What we do not recommend is cutting testing, because fixing problems after launch costs more time.
How long do Apple and Google reviews take?
Every app is reviewed by Apple before it appears on the App Store and by Google before it appears on Google Play. Reviews usually take a few days, and either may ask for changes before approving. That is why review time is part of the plan and publishing is never left to the last day.
How can I be sure the date will be met?
Ask for the delivery date to be written into the contract alongside the features, the cost and the payment milestones, and for test builds during the project rather than seeing the app only at the end. At Comedia all of this goes into the contract before we start, and an account manager follows up with you at every stage.
