A mobile app in the UAE costs whatever its scope demands: how many apps you need, on which platforms, with which features and integrations. This guide walks through the factors that push the price up or down, shows real examples from our offers, and explains what a serious quote should contain.
Why there is no fixed price for an app
Asking "how much is an app?" is like asking "how much is a house?". A simple store app that lists products and takes orders is a completely different project from a delivery platform with a customer app, a driver app, a merchant app and an admin panel. Every extra screen, every new type of user and every third-party integration adds hours of design, development and testing.
So any number you hear before a developer understands your idea in detail is a rough estimate at best. A real price comes after a discovery meeting that pins down the features, and it should then be written into a technical and financial proposal.
The factors that drive app cost
These are the main cost drivers, roughly in order of impact:
| Factor | Pushes cost up | Keeps cost down |
|---|---|---|
| Number of apps and user types | Customer app + driver or vendor app + admin panel | One customer app with an admin panel |
| Platforms | Separate native iOS and Android apps plus a web app | One codebase running on both platforms |
| Features | Live map tracking, real-time chat, complex bookings | Catalogue, cart, orders and basic notifications |
| Design | Fully bespoke design with heavy animation | Clean design built on your brand and proven patterns |
| Third-party integrations | Several payment gateways, couriers and accounting systems | One payment gateway and one delivery partner |
| Languages | Several languages with different content per market | Arabic and English with shared content |
Platforms: iOS and Android
Your UAE audience uses both iPhone and Android, so most commercial projects need both. How the app is built for the two platforms affects cost and timeline, and your developer should be able to tell you which approach they will use and why.
Number of apps and admin panels
This is usually the biggest single factor. A restaurant might need one customer app plus an admin panel. A delivery platform in the style of Talabat needs a customer app, a rider app, a restaurant or merchant app and a full admin dashboard. Each of those is a project in its own right, with its own screens, logic and testing.
Technical features
- Online payments: integration with gateways such as Telr, Network International or Stripe, or buy-now-pay-later services like tabby and Tamara.
- Maps and location: picking an address is simple; live rider tracking takes considerably more work.
- Real-time chat: between customers and merchants or riders.
- Notifications: order updates and promotions, ideally sent straight from the admin panel.
- Reviews, accounts and loyalty: each adds screens and logic to both the app and the admin panel.
Servers, hosting and store publishing
Every app needs a server to store data and run the admin panel, and its size follows your users and order volume. Publishing on the App Store and Google Play also goes through review by Apple and Google, and preparing the store listings, screenshots and descriptions is part of the work.
Support after launch
An app is not finished on launch day. iOS and Android updates, bug fixes and improvements are ongoing work, and you should know from the start how they will be covered.
Price examples from our offers
To make this concrete, here are examples from our current iOS and Android app offers. These are offer prices that may change, and the final quote always depends on your scope:
- E-commerce app under your name and logo on iPhone and Android: from AED 9,000. See the store app offer.
- Business directory app with categories, maps, reviews and paid listing subscriptions: from AED 17,000.
- Premium numbers app for car plates and phone numbers, with AI features: from AED 19,000.
- Classifieds app for property, vehicles and services, with listing fees paid by advertisers: from AED 24,000.
- Marketplace app that brings stores and customers together, with a full control panel and a commission on every order: from AED 26,000.
Notice how the price climbs as more parties join the platform: a store serves one business, directories and classifieds serve many advertisers, and a marketplace connects many merchants with their customers. You can compare all of them on our offers page.
How to reduce cost without hurting the project
Launch a focused first version (MVP)
List the features the business cannot run without and launch with those: say, catalogue, cart, online payment, delivery and notifications. Loyalty programmes, advanced chat and detailed reporting can follow once you see how customers actually use the app.
Plan features in phases
Agree a documented phase plan up front: phase one for launch, phase two a few months later based on user feedback. That spreads the budget and lets you build on real data rather than guesses.
Start from a proven solution
If your idea is close to a store, a directory or a classifieds platform, starting from a proven build and customising it is faster and cheaper than starting from zero, and the app still carries your name and logo.
Never cut the fundamentals
The wrong savings are in testing, server security and code quality. They are invisible at first, but fixing them later costs far more.
Hidden costs to ask about before you sign
- Hosting and servers: is hosting included, for how long, and what does renewal cost?
- Store developer accounts: Apple charges an annual developer membership fee and Google Play a one-off registration fee. Make sure both accounts are opened in your name.
- Third-party fees: payment gateways take a fee per transaction, and maps, SMS and notification services may bill by usage.
- Maintenance and updates: what does post-launch support cover, and what counts as new development?
- Changes mid-project: how are features you request after signing priced?
What a good quote should include
A serious quote is not a number in a WhatsApp message. It should be a clear document that covers:
- A detailed feature list for each app and for the admin panel.
- The platforms and languages included, for example Arabic and English.
- A timeline by phase: design, development, testing and publishing.
- The total cost and a staged payment schedule.
- What the price includes in hosting, publishing and training.
- Handover of source code, files, designs and store accounts in your name.
- Post-launch support terms and the named person who will be your contact.
That is how we work at Comedia: a discovery meeting, then a technical and financial proposal that becomes a documented contract fixing features, timeline and cost, followed by design, development, testing on real devices, store publishing and training with a recorded video. After launch you get technical support and an account manager who suggests improvements every month.
Next step
Write your idea down in a few lines: who the users are and what each of them does in the app. Then book your free first consultation, and we will scope the right first version for your budget and send you a documented quote.
